Autumn is my very favorite time of year, and the north of Spain is an incredible place to be for this particular season change. We knew going into this year that we’d experience a much more mild, grey, and even rainier side of Spain. Thankfully, with that rain comes lush green nature and makes for a vibrant show of colors come October. I basically squeal with joy every time I see the autumnal scenes and colors we are surrounded with. We’ve been lucky enough to explore several of the areas of northern Spain that I’ve never been to before, and getting to see them in Autumn has made these travel experiences even more special. If you’re planning on making a trip to the north of Spain in the future, I’d say you can’t beat coming during the cozy fall months.
Being placed in Logroño, we are in a great location to explore other well known areas of Spain. If you find La Rioja on the map, you can see just how close we are to cities like Santander, Bilbao, Pamplona, and Zaragoza! We have big travel ambitions for this year, and have already done a bit of exploring around the regions of La Rioja, Pais Vasco, and Navarra. Here are some of my favorite pictures from autumn in northern Spain!
As the weather begins to get colder than we’ve ever experienced in Spain, we are reintroduced to the comforts that we fell in love with during our first autumn here last year. The warm smell of chestnuts roasting on street corners, giant Christmas lights beginning to line the streets, and everyone getting prematurely bundled up in giant cozy sweaters and scarves reminds us that winter is near, and we are just as excited by the adventures ahead of us next season! Until then, I’ll hang on as long as I can to my beloved autumn colors, and hope that the weather will go easy on us here in Logroño as the seasons change again!
